Wattle Birds....

I was visiting my mother when she pointed out a Wattle Bird who frequents her backyard in hopes of a free feed of meat. Now Wattle Birds normally enjoy seeds, nectar, insects and grubs so a free feed of mince is highly sort after.

He was quite vocal when she did not respond to his calls. Wattle Birds are from the honey eatter family and use their long beaks to lift the nectar and seeds out of flowers.

I have been fascinated by these birds since arriving at Jervis Bay as they frequent the Banksia Trees off our front verandah. They poke their beaks deep into the cones and then sit and make chirp noises.

This fellow looks as though he is staring straight at the camera. I thought that he was curious about the camera

However in hind sight I think he was loosing patience waiting for his feed.

But attempt to go near his mince hand out and he will become very angry.
