Decisions decisions......

We have spent the weeks before Christmas down on the south coast working and I have l loved every minute of it. One afternoon after work Mr J and I went for a drive out to the coast. There is a new road which begins near work and ends up in an area called Callala Beach, 18kms away. The coastal beaches of the Shoalhaven region are very beautiful and we were really amazed at the lack of people around. Apparently for two weeks after Christmas the Shoalhaven area is very busy but that is about it. It is part of a “point” of beaches made up of Callala Beach, Callala Bay, Culburra, Myola, Currarong, Orient Point and Greenwall Point. It is a beautiful area to drive around. The sandy beaches are very white and the waters are crystal clear. I marveled at how we could be at work one minute and fifteen minutes later we were swimming at the beach in crystal clear waters.

The next afternoon immediately after work we drove back out to the coast and took our fishing lines to a little village called Myola. You have to see this one street town to believe the little holiday cabins there, imagine a stereotypical image of an old “cabin” on the river and you have it lol. The little water way is called Currambene Creek but looks more like an undeveloped river waiting to be explored. It is surrounded by the beautiful bushlands of a national park that was filled with every palm imaginable and my camera got a hammering between the flora and fauna there. The creek is also picturesque to watch. One can see clear to the bottom and in among the reeds you can see the fish darting in and out. The Currumbene Creek divides the Jervis Bay area into two parts. In the center is a marine park which will require some snorkeling to explore I am sure. Opposite Myola on the other side of the creek lies Huskisson and Vincentia which we visited once before. Our fishing was uneventful however it was lovely relaxing in the peace and quiet of the national park. You could hear the birds everywhere Rosellas, black cockatoos and parakeets and a few kangaroos stopped to watch us, they seemed a little curious about what we were doing. It was well after 8pm before we headed home for the evening.

The next afternoon we went back out to Callala Beach for a swim and while laying on the sand Mr J mentioned that this was more like a holiday than a work day. We talked about how lovely it would be to live and work like that permanently. The more I thought about it the more it made sense. If we have to work for a living why keep fighting the Sydney traffic for hours each day; why get home from work to collapse on a lounge chair when you can collapse at the beach or do some fishing, etc. So with that we went for a walk to see what property was available in the area. I often think that some things in life are just meant to be because when we walked to the road I saw a sign advertising a house to rent opposite and the agent came to meet us as it was on her way home from work there. Anyway, to cut the story short as of January 10th we will be beachside residents. There is exactly 30 steps from our front door to the beach, not that I was counting lol. It seems like a very civilized way to end the working day. You can’t imagine how excited I am now and phlegmatic Mr J just sat and smiled and said that we will have to dig our snorkeling gear out again now lol. Well, that was my week. One never knows what next week holds lol, but I certainly have fun thinking about it lol.
